San Diego Comic Con 2012 & Me…

June 12, 2012

I feel like a HUGE weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

This year, I will NOT have a booth at San Diego Comic Con. This will be the first SDCC in 10 years I will not be set up and I can’t tell you how happy I truly am about it.

Those of you like me (Artists, Exhibitors) dread this time of year. SDCC, while a great show, is an incredibly stressful Con. The planning starts almost as soon as it ends. And if you’re a procrastinator… LIKE ME, the planning for SDCC starts in April/May and through June. You’re working on getting ready for it until the moment you’re finally set up your Booth/Artist Alley table. SDCC has been good to me since I started doing it. I’ve always managed to stay busy and have a good show. The people at Comic Con International put together a great show. There’s a reason this show is as huge as it is. It’s a credit to those who work their asses off all year long to make sure it goes off without a hitch and try to help guys like me get what I need.

But this year, I need to take it off.

I will be there. I have my hotel… I have my Pro badge, I’m ready to go.

I need to go and show off what I’m trying to accomplish and hope it turns into something more. While I want “Midknight” to succeed. While I’m excited to show everyone “The Adventures of Rhiannon Ryder” web comic… I still need to work and I need to spend SDCC this year talking to Editors and Publishers.

I see many of my friends seeing success and I wish them all the best, but I find myself feeling left behind and I need to up my game. I’m by no means hurting. I’m extremely lucky in that I have not had to go get work outside of my chosen profession. I have been able to take care of my family and still enjoy myself when I’m not at the Drawing Table or the Computer… but I want to go further in my career then “The Guy who use to draw Star Wars”.

Now, from my recent posts, I have had people email me concerning getting sketches for pick up at SDCC. I will still do this! If you’d like to get a sketch from me I’m going to make it VERY easy…

If you’re hoping to get sketches from me, I will take on a limited number of requests and we will exchange information so we can set up a proper meet up. I will be offering TWO types of Sketches. To get a sketch ordered for Pick Up, email info@tomhodges.com for instructions and deposit information, the cut off date is July 1st.

8.5″ x 11″ Color Card Stock “Single Character” sketches: $100

11″ x 17″  On YOUR choice of Brown card board or White Bristol: $200 (You may choose up to TWO characters) This will also be the last opportunity for a FULL COLOR commission from me for the foreseeable future as I’m switching to Inks and Greytones for Cons.
