I’m auctioning off THREE full sketches for WonderCon (March 29-31 at the Anaheim Convention Center). Only doing THREE full sketches all weekend, ONE per day!
Head HERE to see them. Some of the details are below! Auctions end TOMORROW!
Art will be done on 11″ x 17″ Bristol Board with Pen/Ink and Grey Tone markers. If bidding reaches over $300, you can get up to two characters, if it reaches $500, three!
RULES (We have to have them or it’ll be anarchy… like dogs without horses!)
- Winner of the auction must pay at the close of the auction
- Winner must provide their choice of character(s) at the end of the auction. You can choose any character(s) from Comics, Film, TV or Books. Any Genre. Tom does request nothing offensive (Dejah Thoris is NOT offensive) as he will be working on these on the floor of the Con and there will be children about. Tom will also visualize your own original characters provided you have detailed descriptions or reference for him to work from.
- Winner MUST pick the item up or have made arrangements in advance for a proxy to pick the art up. Nothing will be shipped. Art must be picked up by 4pm Sunday, one hour before the close of the show.

That’s it! Simple, right?
IMPORTANT! Remarques
Due to the rules of the show provided by Lucasfilm, I CANNOT do Remarques before the show. This will limit how many Remarques I can offer. I have a “Pre-Order Mailing List” that currently has priority on Remarques. Realistically, I can add 30 additional “guaranteed” Remarques to the list, but that is it. To get on that list, Email info@tomhodges.com by Friday, July 27th Noon PT. The list will cut off at those additional 30 names, so if it happens before the Deadline, you will receive an email notification.
After that, I cannot promise you a Remarque before the show. It will be something to inquire about at the show starting on Saturday Morning.
“The ONE Star Wars Commission done at the Show!”
Because of the rules I mentioned above, I also cannot create ANY Star Wars pre-ordered commissions for pick-up at the show. I would love to have been able to do this and bring a bunch of stuff for people without waiting, but alas, I cannot. And as of late, any Star Wars art I’ve produced for Lucasfilm, Star Wars Insider and other Licensees has been purchased by George, so I have no Star Wars originals to offer at the moment. So here’s what I’m doing…
I will be offering ONE guaranteed Star Wars commission at SWCVI. Just one. I will also NOT be drawing any other commissions at the show. Just the Remarques I can accommodate and THIS sketch. It will be a 10 Day eBay auction that will run until just before the show. I got the idea from Adam Hughes, Mark Brooks and other guys who have done this in the past at shows. While I don’t know how well it will go over, Lucasfilm has given me the OK to do this, so I’m excited about it.
I’m still hashing out the rules but here’s what I can tell you…
- The commission will be 14″ x 17″ on 70 lb Strathmore Drawing Paper
- You will be able to have up to FOUR characters on the piece. **If you win and you’re wanting something more, we can discuss it. (Example: The Bounty Hunters)**
- The art will be Pen/Ink and Grey Tone Markers
I can tell you that currently my Commission list is closed and I currently have no plan to open it up anytime soon. I’ve also been taking on far less Star Wars requests, so this is a good opportunity to get a piece of art. As soon as the auction goes live, I will post here on the site.
UPDATE:
Lucasfilm has become very strict about “Pre-Ordered Commissions”. Essentially, I am NOT going to take pre-orders for sketches that would have been completed in advance. Those sketches will have to be completed during the show and sadly, I will only have so much time to do such sketches during CVI that they will be very limited. What I would ask is that if you want to get a sketch at the show, Inquire IMMEDIATELY so I can make a guaranteed list for the show. If you get a confirmation email, you will get a sketch done at the show. You will need to reply with your request and either a Deposit or Full payment. I only ask what you’ll be getting in order to bring the proper supplies (Paper Color, Markers).
And sadly, because of this rule, Sketch prices will need to come up a bit. I do apologize. This is something ONLY on Star Wars requests. I can take pre-orders for anything Non-Star Wars and those sketches will retain the original price below. The edited pricing will follow the Original. Again, I’m sorry for that. If you have ANY questions, you can email me at info@tomhodges.com
And just a head’s up, I was considering taking additional commissions at the show, now I cannot. Again, I do apologize.
The following is all you need to know concerning Commissions for Pick-Up at Star Wars Celebration VI in Orlando. And just so you know, Commission do NOT have to be Star Wars. If you prefer another character(s) from other genre’s, that’s perfectly fine!
I will only allow commission pre-orders to be open from now until August 1st. This will allow me time to complete them well before the show. I’m keeping the type of commission limited to these two as they’re the most popular I offer.
To Order a Commission for Pick-Up, you will only need a 50% deposit on what you’re getting. I will allow you to order up to FIVE of type A, but only TWO of type B. Balance due at pick up at show.
PayPal payment of your 50% deposit (or in full) to info@tomhodges.com (you do not need to ask if you’ve gotten a spot, you can simply place your order)
Subject “Hodges SWCVI Commission Spot”

1. When can I Pr-Order a Print?
Pre-Orders will come around SDCC, I won’t start mine until after, which will be Monday, July 16th.
2. Is the Pre-Order limited to a certain amount of prints? I can’t Pre-Order and would just get one at the show…
I can only Pre-Sell a limited number of prints. The amount Pre-Ordered is determined by Lucasfilm. The remaining prints will be for sale at the show for those who did not Pre-Order.
3. How can I get a Remarque?
You can only get a Remarque (a small sketch in the corner of the print) with the Pre-Order. Remarques will be Pencil sketched Head shots of the Character of your choice.
4. Is time a factor in Pre-Ordering?
I may be mistaken but I believe you can only do a Pre-Order for two weeks BUT even if there is NOT a two week time frame, I myself will be only allowing Pre-Orders for two weeks (or until my allowed number for Pre-Order is sold) to give me time to do all of the Remarques.
5. When can we expect all the information on your Pre-Order?
All will be revealed on July 10th!
**NOTE: This is VERY important… You must be attending SWCVI to Pre-Order a Print OR have someone going to the show handling your Print for you. Prints CANNOT be shipped to you nor are they available to NON-Attendees. If you’re getting someone to pick up a Print, it’s best to have them do your ordering for you so there’s no confusion on my end. I am NOT responsible for any orders placed through a friend, that’s on you, Homeslice!
San Diego Comic Con 2012 & Me…
June 12, 2012
I feel like a HUGE weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
This year, I will NOT have a booth at San Diego Comic Con. This will be the first SDCC in 10 years I will not be set up and I can’t tell you how happy I truly am about it.
Those of you like me (Artists, Exhibitors) dread this time of year. SDCC, while a great show, is an incredibly stressful Con. The planning starts almost as soon as it ends. And if you’re a procrastinator… LIKE ME, the planning for SDCC starts in April/May and through June. You’re working on getting ready for it until the moment you’re finally set up your Booth/Artist Alley table. SDCC has been good to me since I started doing it. I’ve always managed to stay busy and have a good show. The people at Comic Con International put together a great show. There’s a reason this show is as huge as it is. It’s a credit to those who work their asses off all year long to make sure it goes off without a hitch and try to help guys like me get what I need.
But this year, I need to take it off.
I will be there. I have my hotel… I have my Pro badge, I’m ready to go.
I need to go and show off what I’m trying to accomplish and hope it turns into something more. While I want “Midknight” to succeed. While I’m excited to show everyone “The Adventures of Rhiannon Ryder” web comic… I still need to work and I need to spend SDCC this year talking to Editors and Publishers.
I see many of my friends seeing success and I wish them all the best, but I find myself feeling left behind and I need to up my game. I’m by no means hurting. I’m extremely lucky in that I have not had to go get work outside of my chosen profession. I have been able to take care of my family and still enjoy myself when I’m not at the Drawing Table or the Computer… but I want to go further in my career then “The Guy who use to draw Star Wars”.
Now, from my recent posts, I have had people email me concerning getting sketches for pick up at SDCC. I will still do this! If you’d like to get a sketch from me I’m going to make it VERY easy…
If you’re hoping to get sketches from me, I will take on a limited number of requests and we will exchange information so we can set up a proper meet up. I will be offering TWO types of Sketches. To get a sketch ordered for Pick Up, email info@tomhodges.com for instructions and deposit information, the cut off date is July 1st.
8.5″ x 11″ Color Card Stock “Single Character” sketches: $100
11″ x 17″ On YOUR choice of Brown card board or White Bristol: $200 (You may choose up to TWO characters) This will also be the last opportunity for a FULL COLOR commission from me for the foreseeable future as I’m switching to Inks and Greytones for Cons.
Commission, Kickstarter Update and Con News…
April 3, 2012
Things have been a bit crazy and I wanted to give folks an update on pending commissions (thankfully, there are not many) as well as the last of the Kickstarter rewards and ADDED Convention appearances!
1. Commissions/Kickstarter Rewards:
If you’re waiting on a commission or a Kickstarter Reward, I’m ALMOST caught up. The Kickstarter stuff is all but done, but I still need to do Sketchbook sketches on a bunch of the $100 Pledge tiers. Currently I have this HUGE Deadline that is holding me back from completing those and as soon as this deadline passes (in the next 7 days), I can get those cranked out and shipped. This also goes for Commissions as well. I’ll be getting those organized in the next two weeks and IF you’ll be attending C2E2, Let me know ASAP!!! I can make it a point to bring your Commission and/or Kickstarter Reward!
Also, I’ve sold quite a bit of art through my site the past couple of weeks. I apologize for not shipping it all quickly, Since I did the sale, I had family in town and became very ill (I lost 12 lbs in ONE DAY!), so I am looking to get to the Post Office in the next Day or two. This Deadline is big and I cannot miss it. As soon as I can share it with you, I will! Trust me, you’ll know about it probably before I am even Oked to show you. LOL
2. Convention Appearances:
C2E2: Chicago, IL April 13-15 in the North Building at McCormick Place. I can be found in Artist Alley all weekend at Table I-11
FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! May 5th, Phat Collectibles, 16532 Beach Blvd. Huntington Beach, CA 10am – ??? I’ll have some “Friends” in tow, doing my $10 sketches the whole time and May have something special as well! (Website should be updated soon!)
LBCC ONE DAY SHOW! May 12th, Long Beach, CA Long Beach Convention Center (Table TBA)
PHOENIX COMICON: May 24-27th, Phoenix Convention Center (Table TBA) I will have TWO panels that weekend and despite what it says on the website, I WILL be there the entire show!
SAN DIEGO COMIC CON!!! July 11-15th, San Diego Convention Center (Booth 1133, same as last year!)
STAR WARS CELEBRATION VI!!! August 23-26th, Orange County Convention Center (Booth 1141)
